Koto is a global brand agency founded in 2015 by Caroline Matthews, James Greenfield, and Jowey Roden, with studios in Berlin, London, Los Angeles, New York, and Sydney. While primarily a brand design agency, Koto has produced custom typefaces for major technology clients.

Koto has created brand identities for technology companies including Airbnb, Amazon Music, Discord, Fiverr, Uber Eats, and WhatsApp. Their type design work is driven by brand strategy, creating typefaces that serve as distinctive identity assets.

Notable Typefaces

The studio's type work includes Stack Sans, a modernist-inspired sans-serif family developed for Stack Overflow. Designed by Dylan Young at Koto, Stack Sans features distinctive notched detailing inspired by the building and coding process, available in three variants: Text, Headline, and Notch.
