WeType

WeType is a type foundry co-founded by John Kudos (New York) and David Jon Walker (New Haven). The foundry is rooted at the intersection of Western and Eastern cultural heritage, championing the preservation, evolution, and creation of typographic voices for purposeful designers, brands, and institutions.

Founders

John Kudos is an Indonesian-American creative director with over 20 years of experience, including seven years at Pentagram. He teaches typography at the School of Visual Arts and is the managing partner of KUDOS Design Collaboratory.

David Jon Walker is an art director and type designer at the Yale School of Art. His work centers African American heritage and socially engaged design, holding MFAs from both Yale and the University of Memphis.

WeType's catalog includes Appeal, Spolia, Spur, Stacks (a TDC award winner), Supergolf, and Travelogue. Each typeface reflects the foundry's commitment to cultural meaning and purposeful design. The foundry's work bridges Indonesian, African American, and broader Western typographic traditions.
