Overview
FontAlternatives.com and its browser extension FontSwap are designed with privacy in mind. We collect minimal data and process everything locally where possible.
FontAlternatives.com Website
- Analytics — We use PostHog via a self-hosted proxy. No cookies are set and no directly identifying info is collected (no name/email). Analytics events are pseudonymous and cookie-less.
- No accounts — The site has no login, registration, or user account system.
- No personal data — We do not collect names, emails, or any personally identifiable information through the website.
- Static site — Static site — no server-side user accounts; only basic request logs and cookie-less analytics.
FontSwap Browser Extension
FontSwap does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. The extension operates entirely on your device and processes all information locally.
How It Works
FontSwap detects fonts used on web pages you visit and suggests free alternatives. All processing happens locally on your device:
- Font detection runs in your browser tab using the
activeTabpermission - Alternative lookup uses a bundled dataset — no server round-trip needed
- Your browsing history, page content, and detected fonts are never sent anywhere
- Font preferences and settings are stored locally in your browser
External Connections
FontSwap makes two optional network requests:

No cookies, identifiers, or personal data are included in these requests.
Permissions Explained
FontSwap requests only the minimum permissions needed to function:

Data Storage
All data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. Nothing is synced to external servers. Stored items include:
- Your font replacement preferences
- Cached alternative mappings (to reduce network requests)
- Extension settings (theme, display options)
You can clear all stored data at any time by removing the extension from Chrome.
Third-Party Services
Font previews are loaded from Google Fonts. Google's privacy policy applies to those requests: policies.google.com/privacy.
Children's Privacy
FontAlternatives.com and FontSwap do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. Since we collect no personal data, we are compliant with COPPA.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the website or extension after changes constitutes acceptance.
