Full license guide →Martian Mono is the monospaced sibling of Martian Grotesk, made by Roman Shamin and Evil Martians for code and code-style design. It inherits what its Google Fonts description calls the parent family's "brutal and eye-catching" aesthetics while staying practical for developers and designers who like systematic layouts.
It is also unusually flexible for a monospace. The variable font on Google Fonts has two axes: width from 75 to 112.5 (Condensed to SemiExpanded) and weight from Thin (100) to ExtraBold (800). Most coding fonts give you weight only, so the width axis is what sets it apart. Use condensed widths for narrow sidebars and tables, and wider settings for display numerals or headlines that want a technical edge.
Basic Cyrillic arrived in January 2023, adding Ukrainian, Belarusian and Russian alongside Latin and Latin Extended.
There are no italics. If your editor theme relies on italic comments, pick a theme that marks comments with colour instead, or pair it with another family.
Martian Mono suits developer-tool branding, terminal-style landing pages and data-dense dashboards as much as an editor. It is free on Google Fonts under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
